  • WoW Forever Druid Leveling Guide 1-60: Best Spec, Talents, Forms, Rotation and Group Play

4 November 2026 Blog news

The druid can be anything a group needs: a cat that kills, a bear that tanks, a healer, or a caster. Forever made forms much more practical. Your forms now hit with your weapon's damage, Omen of Clarity is baseline from level 20, you can use potions and items in forms, and the launch notes made cat attacks hit much harder.

This guide is built on what four druid experts found in the beta. Where they disagree, we show both sides. Checked on November 4, 2026, against Blizzard's launch notes of November 3. The beta went to level 30, so everything above 30 is a forecast; we update the guide after launch.

Short answer

Level as Feral. Do the Bear Form quest at 10 and the Cat Form quest at 20 right away: both are big power spikes. Put your first points into Ferocity and take Feral Swiftness by 19. Pull with Prowl and Shred, build combo points with Rake and Claw, finish with Rip or Ferocious Bite, which you now get at 24. In a duo or group, a druid can tank as a bear or heal; the Resto-cat hybrid levels almost as fast as Feral. Take Skinning and Leatherworking.

Best spec: Feral

All four experts level as Feral. BirraGzeez calls it the fastest and most popular choice; Lexolas calls it a very viable spec that asks you to use all your forms. MMARKERS puts it simply: if you just beeline to 60, Feral is faster overall.

Two alternatives:

  • Resto-cat hybrid (MMARKERS): you cast Wrath and Moonfire, finish in Cat Form, and can heal any group. "Not going to be quite as fast as feral, but it's competitive," he says, and it is his own choice. He has tested it only to level 30.
  • Balance: BirraGzeez says it can take you from 1 to 60, though it is not the fastest. MMARKERS warns that without the Reflection talent you will be "addicted to the drinks".

Feral levels fastest; bears and healers are welcome in any group.

Talent build by level

Lexolas's Feral build up to 44 (20 points Feral, 15 Restoration). The beta went to 30; levels above 30 are a forecast.

LevelTalents
10-14Ferocity 5/5
15-17Feral Instinct 3/3
18-19Feral Swiftness 2/2
20Feral Charge
21-22Savage Fury 2/2
23-24Shredding Attacks 2
25Lacerate
26Shredding Attacks 3/3
27Predatory Strikes 1
28-29Sharpened Claws 2
30-34Heart of the Wild 5/5
35-37Natural Shapeshifter 3/3
38-39Naturalist 2
40-42Subtlety 3
43-44Naturalist 4

After 44, MMARKERS and BirraGzeez go deeper into Feral for Leader of the Pack, Predatory Discipline and the two row 7 talents, Primal Bite and Shifting Power (row 7 needs 30 points in Feral, so on top of this build it opens at 55 at the earliest). Since launch, Primal Bite requires Leader of the Pack and Shifting Power requires Predatory Discipline. Try the build in the Wowhead talent calculator for Forever.

Pro tip

Many guides still put Primal Bite and Shifting Power at 25-26 and Berserk at 40. Since the October 30 rework, confirmed in the launch notes, both talents sit in row 7 from level 40, and Berserk is gone. Lacerate is now a row 4 talent.

Where players disagree

What to take first? BirraGzeez and Lexolas start with Ferocity. MMARKERS takes Furor 3 first, so you have enough energy for an attack right after you shift, and then Feral Instinct for a much bigger Swipe. Feral Swiftness by 19-20 is on every list: MMARKERS says it saves 90 minutes to 2 hours between 20 and 30.

Where players disagree

Shredding Attacks and Lacerate? Lexolas takes both. MMARKERS skips them: Shredding Attacks no longer helps Shifting Power, and Lacerate costs 15 rage and only pays off at 5 stacks, so he puts the point into Predatory Discipline, "the best benefit". BirraGzeez takes Lacerate only in his tank build.

Key spells and forms by level

LevelWhat you getWhy it matters
4MoonfireYour first pull
10Bear Form (class quest)BirraGzeez: a major power spike, do it as soon as possible
~13Weapon quest in Ragefire Chasm or Hall of ThanesForms hit with your weapon's damage (MMARKERS)
16Swipe; Aquatic Form (class quest)Swipe is your first attack for packs
20Cat Form (class quest); Shred; Omen of ClarityYour second power spike
24Ferocious Bite, rank 1A new first rank from the launch notes; before, Bite started at 32
30Travel Form+40% speed outdoors until your mount
32Ravage; PoisedOut of combat at full energy, your next ability costs 10 energy less, so openers are cheaper
40Dire Bear Form; mount; row 7 talentsPrimal Bite and Shifting Power

What you can skip at the trainer (Lexolas): Abolish Poison, Track Humanoids, Cower, Soothe Animal and ranks of Entangling Roots above the first. Lexolas also skipped Starfire, but it hits about 40% harder since the launch notes, so casters should keep it. Buy every rank of Claw, Rake, Rip, Swipe and Faerie Fire. Blizzard puts the full cost of training from 1 to 60 at about 206 gold. New spells do not go on your action bars by themselves.

Rotation

Levels 1-9

Wrath, Moonfire, then melee with auto attack: "Do not sleep on auto attacking," says MMARKERS, because it lets your mana come back. Rejuvenation on yourself when needed.

Levels 10-19: bear

Bear, one target

  1. WrathTwice from range
  2. →
  3. spell spell nature starfallMoonfireBefore the mob reaches you
  4. →
  5. Bear FormShift as it arrives
  6. →
  7. spell ability druid enrageEnrageFrom 12; rage to start
  8. →
  9. spell ability druid demoralizingroarDemoralizing RoarLess damage taken
  10. →
  11. spell ability druid maulMaulUntil it dies

For packs: Moonfire on each mob, Bear Form, Demoralizing Roar, Swipe (from 16). Swipe hits only three targets, and late in a rank a single Maul can be worth more (MMARKERS).

From 20: cat

  1. spell ability ambushProwlOpen from stealth
  2. spell spell shadow vampiricauraShredFrom behind; Ravage from 32. With Poised, the opener costs 10 energy less
  3. spell spell nature faeriefireFaerie FireArmor down; in forms it no longer procs Omen of Clarity
  4. spell ability druid disembowelRakeFrom 24; only if the mob lives through the bleed
  5. spell ability druid rakeClawBuild combo points; Shred when Clearcasting procs
  6. spell ability ghoulfrenzyRipAt 5 combo points on mobs that live 6 seconds or more
  7. spell ability druid ferociousbiteFerocious BiteFrom 24; when the mob dies in 3 seconds or less

MMARKERS: if a fight will not last 18 seconds, skip the bleeds. Since the launch notes, Shred hits for 200% weapon damage, Claw 140%, Ravage 435%, and Rip, Rake and Ferocious Bite about 25% more. Combo points no longer drop when you switch targets (BirraGzeez). With Predatory Discipline, extra energy after Bite is not wasted: Bite, then Claw.

From 40, Shifting Power turns mana into 40 energy: use it below 50 energy. Bear-weaving and powershifting do not work in Forever.

Packs as a cat (Lexolas)

Shifting Power below 50 energy, Rip on the main target, Rake on all of them without refreshing early, then Shred or Claw.

Leveling in a group: duo, trio or party

A druid fills whatever slot the group is missing. A warrior and a druid is a classic pair: the druid kills as a cat and heals between pulls, or tanks while the warrior deals damage. Since the launch notes, Bear Form and Dire Bear Form generate 115% threat instead of 50%, because Blessing of Salvation is gone, so tanking in a group got easier.

GroupYour specWhy
Duo with a melee: warrior, rogue, paladinFeral, or the Resto-cat hybridKill as a cat and heal your partner between pulls; the hybrid heals in combat too
Duo with a hunter, mage or warlockFeral as a bearYou hold the mobs, they deal the damage
Trio, party, dungeonsBear tank or a healerBirraGzeez: you do not need healing talents for leveling dungeons, just healing gear

The Resto-cat hybrid (MMARKERS): Improved Wrath 4, Furor 5 and Feral Swiftness 2 by 20; Heart of the Wild at 20-25; Reflection 3 and Naturalist 5; Bloom around 30; Natural Shapeshifter 1 and Swiftmend at 36; then Balance talents. Cast Wrath and Moonfire, then finish in Cat Form, which he uses "as an empowered auto attack" while your mana comes back. In his test he killed a mob in full healing gear and kept 100% mana. From 40, he adds a separate healer-only spec. "There's no other healer in the game that can level like this," he says.

A tank build for groups (BirraGzeez): Feral Instinct early for Swipe, Thick Hide, Primal Bite for threat, and Rend and Tear with Lacerate.

How to heal a group while leveling (MMARKERS):

  • Keep your highest Regrowth on the tank.
  • Heal with Healing Touch: your top rank and one 2-3 ranks lower to save mana.
  • Swiftmend for emergencies; since launch it needs one of your own heals over time on the target.
  • Rejuvenation is weak until Improved Rejuvenation.
  • Keep a healing set and a healing weapon in your bags. MMARKERS swaps weapons with two macros: Cat Form plus the feral weapon, and cancel form plus the healing weapon.

Where players disagree

Healing talents or not? BirraGzeez says a Feral druid with healing gear is enough for leveling dungeons. MMARKERS levels as the hybrid and switches to a pure healing spec only for hard dungeons.

Pro tip

Dual spec at 40 solves the choice: Feral for questing alone, bear or Restoration for your group.

Gear while leveling

  • Your forms hit with your weapon's damage: a weapon upgrade is a big upgrade, and swapping weapons can be worth it (MMARKERS).
  • Early on, Strength beats Agility: Agility does not add attack power in Bear Form (MMARKERS).
  • Before 20, spell power helps: Thorns scales with it and has no limit on targets (Lexolas).
  • Weapons to aim for (MMARKERS): the quest weapon from Ragefire Chasm or Hall of Thanes around 13, Segmented Spider Leg (a level 15 staff from Witherfang in Ruins of Lordaeron), and Manual Crowd Pummeler (level 29, from Crowd Pummeler 9-60 in Gnomeregan).

Best races

Racials were reworked on October 26-27, so older videos are out of date. MMARKERS's first rule still holds: pick the race you like to look at.

FactionRaceWhy
AllianceNight ElfSnupy's pick for Feral: Elune's Light (+10% crit for 15 seconds) is now your main burst, Quickness works in forms, Shadowmeld works in combat
AllianceSkyborneRead Leyline restores mana faster; Wind Blessed (2% haste) speeds your auto attacks in forms
HordeTaurenWar Stomp works in forms and is your only stun in Cat Form; Endurance boosts Frenzied Regeneration
HordeSkyborneBirraGzeez picks it for cat and Balance in PvE; Snupy and MMARKERS rate it lowest

Professions

Skinning and Leatherworking: every expert who spoke about it agrees. Do not sell Waylaid Crates: they give Merchant Favors and recipes (MMARKERS). Engineering later for PvP: grenades and dynamite now work in Cat Form.

For your camp (Lexolas): Camp Chair, Fish Bowl, and after 30 the Leatherworking Camp Tent for rested experience. Eat food that gives 5% more experience. Legacy: Talented if you have more than 5 points, otherwise Gourmand.

Strengths and weaknesses

StrongWeak
Fast travel: Cat Form, Travel FormA slow start before Swipe and Cat Form
Very hard to kill: heals, bear, formsMana while you shift often
Can tank, heal or deal damageMany buttons and forms to manage
Rebirth and a group buffGroups often expect you to tank

In dungeons

As a bear, Demoralizing Roar is your main button: pull with Faerie Fire or Moonfire and use Growl (MMARKERS). Lexolas's advice: get used to tanking early. As a healer, see the group section above.

PvP in short

Our tier list rates Feral and Restoration B in PvP.

  • Snupy, the only feral in the beta tournament final: open with Rake, a short Rip, then Bear Form at once; adapt to each class.
  • War Stomp beats 1% hit in most PvP situations (Snupy).
  • Use rank 1 Mark of the Wild and Rejuvenation to bait Purge, and rank 1 roots (MMARKERS).

At 60: Feral, Balance, bear and healer

In the MythicSim level 60 simulation (single target, November 4, 2026), Feral deals 985 DPS and Balance 818; both are B tier in our WoW Forever tier list. The bear has the most threat of any tank in the simulation, and Restoration is an S tier healer. Leader of the Pack and Moonkin Form both give 3% crit to the raid, but they do not stack.

8 tips that save time

  1. Do the Bear Form quest at 10 and the Cat Form quest at 20 at once.
  2. Learn Swipe at 16: it is your first way to fight packs.
  3. Feral Swiftness by 19.
  4. Skip bleeds on mobs that die fast.
  5. Upgrade your weapon: forms hit with it.
  6. Keep a healing set in your bags.
  7. Do not sell Waylaid Crates.
  8. Keep a bear or healing second spec for groups.

Where Blizzard is taking the druid: forms are stronger and simpler, with no bear-weaving or powershifting; cats got the biggest boost at launch and bears more threat. Open question: whether Swiftmend consumes your heal over time; its tooltip says it does, the launch notes do not say. We update this table with each patch.

Do

  • Bear Form quest at 10, Cat Form quest at 20.
  • Ferocity or Furor first; Feral Swiftness by 19.
  • Upgrade your weapon: forms hit with its damage.
  • Skinning and Leatherworking.
  • A healing set in your bags; a bear or healing spec at 40.

Skip

  • Primal Bite or Shifting Power before 40: they are in row 7.
  • Counting on Berserk: it was removed.
  • Bleeds on mobs that die in a few seconds.
  • Selling Waylaid Crates.
