  • WoW Forever Warrior Leveling Guide 1-60: Best Spec, Talents, Rotation and Weapons

4 November 2026 Blog news

The warrior is the hardest class to start in WoW Forever and one of the strongest at 60. shoop, who wrote the Wowhead Arms guide, puts it plainly: "Warrior is objectively the toughest class to level." Forever helps more than Classic did. Victory Rush heals you after a kill, Tactical Mastery is baseline, rage is normalized to your weapon speed, and Protection hits hard enough to quest with.

This guide is built on what three warrior experts found in the beta, plus the Mobalytics Fury guide. Where they disagree, we show both sides. Checked on November 4, 2026, against Blizzard's launch notes of November 3, which rebuilt the Fury tree and changed several Arms talents. The beta went to level 30, so everything above 30 is a forecast; we update the guide after launch.

Short answer

Level as Protection until about 35-40: Shield Block and Revenge at 16 turn the warrior into a sturdy quester. Use Victory Rush after every kill, save rage between mobs, and fight mobs at or below your level. Arms is best with a healer at your side; Fury is a solo grinding option from the Mobalytics guide. Buy the highest-level weapon you can use, take Mining and Blacksmithing for sharpening stones, and collect dungeon quests before you go in.

Best spec: Protection first

Riyani writes that Arms and Fury will be looking to Protection for the first 35-40 levels, "if not longer", and calls level 16, with Shield Block and Revenge, an "enormous glow-up". Bajheera, who tested Protection in the beta, agrees that it is probably the play for leveling. His wider point: leveling is "kind of like whatever", as long as the spec is good at 60.

Where players disagree

Which spec is fastest alone? Riyani and Bajheera say Protection. shoop says Arms is heavily gear-reliant and struggles with several mobs or mobs above your level, so it shines next to a healer. Kargoz's Mobalytics guide calls Fury "the single best class and spec in the game at single target grinding green mobs", mobs a few levels below you. None of them compared the specs after the November 3 changes.

An orc warrior in spiked plate raises a burning axe in front of a wooden palisade on the red plains of the Barrens
Protection carries you to 35-40; Arms and Fury pay off later.

Talent build by level

The launch notes rebuilt the Fury tree and changed Arms, so many warrior builds online are out of date. The three builds below are checked against the November 3 tree. Talents open at level 10 + 5 × row.

Protection (Riyani, 4/15/32)

LevelTalents
10-14Shield Specialization 5/5
15-17Improved Revenge 3/3
18-19Improved Thunder Clap 2
20-21Master of Defense 2/2
22Improved Thunder Clap 3/3
23Last Stand
24Defiance 1
25Vanguard: Charge in Defensive Stance
26-27Defiance 3/3
28-41Anticipation 2, Improved Shield Wall 2, Concussion Blow, Focused Rage 3, Bastion 5, then Shield Slam
42-60Fury: Cruelty 5, Unbridled Wrath 5, Enrage 5; Arms: Deflection 4

Riyani's rule: get Shield Specialization, Improved Revenge and Master of Defense as early as possible, because they matter most. His alternative 28/5/18 build mixes Arms with Protection for cleave and stance dancing; he recommends it for experienced players.

Arms (shoop, updated for the new tree)

shoop's order dates from October 31. Improved Tactical Mastery now has 3 ranks and Bloodthrill 2, so 5 points moved. We kept them in Arms, so Spearing Strike still opens at 25 and Mortal Strike at 40. Improved Charge at 23-24 is our pick, following Bajheera's advice, not shoop's.

LevelTalents
10-12Improved Rend 3/3
13-14Improved Heroic Strike 2
15-16Improved Overpower 2/2
17-19Improved Tactical Mastery 3/3

34Bloodthrill 2/2
35-37Weaponmaster 3
38-39Improved Slam 2/2
40Mortal Strike
41-42Weaponmaster 5/5
43-47Cruelty 5/5 (Fury)
48-52Lingering Rage 5/5 (Fury)
53Piercing Howl (Fury)
54-58Deflection 5/5 (our pick)
59Improved Heroic Strike 3/3 (our pick)
60Improved Hamstring 1 (our pick)

Fury (Kargoz, updated for the new tree)

Kargoz's guide was last updated before the launch notes, and he did not test above 30. Raging Blows no longer exists and Flurry now has 3 ranks, so we adjusted four points; those picks are ours.

LevelTalents
10-14Cruelty 5/5
15-19Lingering Rage 5/5
20-22Furious Precision 3/3
23-24Blood Craze 2
25-29Enrage 5/5
30Death Wish: now required for Bloodthirst
31-32Improved Berserker Rage 2/2
33Blood Craze 3/3
34Dual Wield Specialization 1
35Gore Drinker 1
36Improved Whirlwind 1 (replaces Raging Blows)
37Gore Drinker 2/2
38-39Flurry 2
40Bloodthirst
41Flurry 3/3
42-43Improved Whirlwind 2/2, Reckless Swings (our pick)
44-47Dual Wield Specialization 5/5
48-49Deflection 2
50-52Improved Rend 3/3
53-55Improved Tactical Mastery 3/3
56-57Improved Heroic Strike 2 (our pick; keeps Anger Management open)
58Anger Management
59-60Deep Wounds 2

New Fury talents in the launch notes, with no expert verdict yet: Reckless Swings costs 25% of your base health, and your next 4 hits within 8 seconds give 5 extra rage each, every 15 seconds. Improved Whirlwind cuts its cooldown by up to 2 seconds and adds up to 30% damage to the closest target.

Check any build in the Wowhead talent calculator for Forever.

Pro tip

Since the launch notes, Flurry no longer needs Death Wish, but Bloodthirst does. If a build skips Death Wish, it cannot reach Bloodthirst.

Key spells by level

LevelWhat you getWhy it matters
10Defensive Stance (class quest)Do it early for Taunt (Kargoz)
14Tactical Mastery (baseline)Keeps rage when you switch stances
16Shield Block and RevengeProtection's "glow-up" (Riyani)
20Victory Rush; SlamVictory Rush heals 10% after a kill, every 30 seconds
30Berserker Stance (class quest); Berserker Rage; InterceptThe quest also gives the Whirlwind Axe
36WhirlwindHits with both weapons
38PummelInterrupts casters

Must-train for Arms (shoop): Heroic Strike, Battle Shout, Charge, Rend, Sunder Armor, Overpower, Cleave, Victory Rush, Mortal Strike and Recklessness. For Protection (Riyani), add Thunder Clap, Revenge, Demoralizing Shout, Shield Block and Shield Slam. Blizzard puts the full cost of training from 1 to 60 at about 206 gold. New spells do not go on your action bars by themselves.

Slam has a 15-second cooldown since the launch notes; with Improved Slam it is 10 seconds and no longer delays your swing.

Rotation

Protection, one target (Riyani)

  1. spell ability defendShield BlockOff the global cooldown; keep it rolling
  2. RevengeWhenever it lights up
  3. spell inv shield 05Shield SlamFrom 40
  4. spell spell nature thunderclapThunder ClapSlows the mob’s attacks
  5. spell ability warrior warcryDemoralizing ShoutLess damage taken
  6. RendOnly if your threat is already high
  7. spell ability warrior sunderSunder ArmorFiller when you have spare rage
  8. spell ability rogue ambushHeroic StrikeAt 30+ rage

Riyani says Demoralizing Shout and Thunder Clap cut mob damage by 30-40%, which means "more time killing and less time eating". Bajheera binds Shield Block, Revenge and Defensive Stance to one macro. Against casters, Shield Bash is your rage-free answer.

Arms, one target (shoop)

  1. RendFirst: Bloodthrill can proc Overpower on a target with Rend
  2. spell ability meleedamageOverpowerWhenever it procs
  3. spell ability warrior savageblowMortal StrikeOn cooldown from 40
  4. spell ability warrior decisivestrikeSlamWith Improved Slam
  5. spell ability warrior sunderSunder ArmorWhen rage allows
  6. spell ability rogue ambushHeroic StrikeOnly at 40+ rage

Heroic Strike stops your auto attack from building rage, "effectively doubling its Rage cost", so use it only to spend extra rage. Save Execute while leveling: you need the rage for the next mob (shoop). Bloodthrill procs only from main-hand hits, so dual-wielding Arms gains nothing from it.

Arms, packs (shoop)

Build rage before the pull. Against dangerous packs, Demoralizing Shout and Thunder Clap first. Otherwise Sweeping Strikes and Mortal Strike, Cleave only at 45+ rage, then Whirlwind. Do not press Cleave right after Mortal Strike, or you will not have rage for Whirlwind.

Fury from 40 (Kargoz)

Battle Shout, Charge, Berserker Rage, then Bloodthirst, his number one priority. After that Victory Rush, Overpower, Whirlwind, Sunder Armor or Rend, Heroic Strike and Execute. On packs: Demoralizing Shout, Thunder Clap, Whirlwind, Cleave, Bloodthirst, Death Wish. His rage rule: "OBSESS over your Rage bar." Use Victory Rush after you have taken damage, but never let it expire.

Rage and downtime

Downtime is the warrior's biggest enemy (shoop). What helps:

  • Fight mobs at or below your level: misses and parries cost you rage (shoop, Kargoz).
  • Use Victory Rush after every kill.
  • Bloodrage between pulls; Lingering Rage keeps rage from fading.
  • Critical auto attacks give more rage; special attacks do not (Bajheera).
  • Eat food that gives 5% more experience (shoop) and carry healing potions.
  • Bajheera keeps a set with Spirit and health regeneration for dungeons.

Leveling with a healer or in a group

Warriors are the most common partner in duos: a warrior with a priest, shaman, druid or paladin is a classic pair. shoop says Arms is at its best next to a healer: no pauses to eat, and you can pull packs for Sweeping Strikes.

GroupYour specWhy
Duo with a healerArms, or Protection if you tank larger pullsNo downtime; Sweeping Strikes on packs
Duo with a damage dealerProtectionYou hold the mobs and survive alone between heals
Trio, party, dungeonsProtectionThe group expects the warrior to tank

Tanking got easier at launch: Defensive Stance now adds 80% threat instead of 30%, and Defiance gives up to 20%. Riyani says Protection warriors are "very sought after" in dungeons for their damage and threat. Keep Battle Shout, Sunder Armor, Thunder Clap and Demoralizing Shout up, and use Retaliation on big pulls.

Dungeon experience in Forever moved from mobs to quests: collect every dungeon quest before you go in (shoop). Bajheera finds them with the Dungeon Journal and Questie addons.

Weapons and gear

  • Rage is normalized to weapon speed, so buy the highest-level weapon you can; at equal stats a faster one wastes less damage on overkill and gets more from sharpening stones (Riyani). He adds that the warrior "scales the best with new weapon upgrades".
  • Arms uses a two-hander: Two-Handed Weapon Specialization now gives up to 6%. Bajheera's pick at 30 is the Whirlwind Axe from the class quest.
  • Fury: fast one-handers with sharpening stones, but weapon damage still matters (Kargoz).
  • Protection: a one-hander and a shield; Defiance only works with a shield.
  • Dungeon quest rewards are better now: Axe of Orgrimmar from Ragefire Chasm is a blue (shoop).
  • Learn new weapon skills as soon as you pick up a new weapon type (Bajheera).

Where players disagree

Fast or slow weapons? Riyani and Kargoz prefer faster weapons at equal stats. Bajheera plays a slow two-hander even as Fury, and older guides say slower is always better. With normalized rage, weapon level and damage matter more than speed.

Camp, Legacy and consumables

  • Legacy (shoop, Riyani): Thrill of Adventure with your first points, then Well Rested and Talented; shoop wants Mortal Strike as early as possible.
  • Sharpening stones are Kargoz's "NUMBER ONE priority", about 20% more damage, on both weapons.
  • Camp Chair gives 2% crit (Riyani).

Where players disagree

Is the Camp Tent worth it? shoop says it always gives the most value. Riyani says it only pays off from about level 22-25; before that, Sharpening Wheel, Faction Banner or Lodestone.

Best races

Racials were reworked on October 26-27 and repeated in the launch notes, so most races are close now.

FactionRaceWhy
AllianceHumanRuthless gives 1% crit to everything
AllianceDwarfArtisan's Precision gives 1% hit; Stoneform
AllianceNight ElfElune's Light: 10% crit for 15 seconds
HordeOrcBlood Fury every 2 minutes; Savage was removed
HordeTrollKargoz's own pick: Berserking for 15 seconds, Rapid Regeneration
HordeTauren5% more health; since the launch notes, tauren warriors start with the correct +5 Strength over humans
HordeUndeadBajheera liked it before the rework; Will of the Forsaken no longer gives immunity

Professions

Mining and Blacksmithing: sharpening stones and a Strength buff for your camp (shoop, Kargoz). Ore veins are much more common now. First Aid is Kargoz's first priority: in Forever it also makes healing potions. Bajheera switched to Engineering for PvP with grenades and the Goblin Mortar.

Strengths and weaknesses

StrongWeak
The best weapon scaling of any classThe slowest start: no self-heal before Victory Rush
A wanted tank for every dungeonNo way to move faster before the mount
Charge and Intercept to close gapsMobs above your level drain rage
Huge cooldowns for hard fightsNeeds gear and weapon upgrades to keep up

PvP in short

Our tier list rates Arms A and Fury and Protection C in PvP.

  • Bajheera: Arms has the burst, bleeds and Mortal Strike; Fury has mobility and self-healing and "might be a fine BG spec", but he fears other melee as Fury in duels.
  • Sword and board can win against casters (Bajheera).
  • Disarm early, carry Free Action Potions; the Slither Cord belt from Wailing Caverns removes a root.
  • The root from Improved Hamstring now shares diminishing returns with other proc roots.

At 60: Fury, Arms and Protection

In our WoW Forever tier list, Fury is A tier for PvE damage with the best melee cleave, Arms is B, and Protection is an A tier tank: the best cooldowns and the main raid tank. MythicSim already simulates the new Fury tree; we add level 60 numbers to this guide once they settle.

8 tips that save time

  1. Do the Defensive Stance quest at 10.
  2. Play Protection until 35-40.
  3. Use Victory Rush after every kill.
  4. Fight mobs at or below your level.
  5. Heroic Strike only with spare rage.
  6. Buy the highest-level weapon you can use, and keep sharpening stones on it.
  7. Collect dungeon quests before you go in.
  8. Level with a healer if you can.
