The numbers come from Blizzard's beta development notes, the closed beta and players' tests, checked on October 30, 2026 for the launch build. The beta stopped at level 30, so everything above 30 is a forecast until launch week. We update this guide after November 4.
Short answer
Quest through your race's zones, run each low-level dungeon once with all of its quests, keep camp bonuses and crafted food up, and follow a route addon. Horde must-runs: Ragefire Chasm, Ruins of Lordaeron, Wailing Caverns. Alliance must-runs: Hall of Thanes, Deadmines, Stockade, Excavation Site. Plan for about 150 hours of play to 60, or 100-125 with a route addon and some experience.

What changed from Classic leveling
Same curve, more quests, and dungeon XP lives in the quests.
| XP per level | Same as Classic, the curve was not changed |
| New quests | About 1,000 across 1-60 |
| Dungeon XP | Mostly from one-time quests, kills give little |
| Respawns | Faster in the busiest zones |
| Camping | New: sit by a campfire, bonuses last 1 hour |
| New zones | Zephras Isle 1-12, Riverglades 35-45, Shen'Dralas from 40, Mount Hyjal at 60 |
Blizzard's own analytics put the average time to level 20 at 20.5 hours in Forever against 20.4 hours in Classic Era. The extra quests did not shorten the curve; they give you more choice, so you can skip slow quests and still keep pace.
Dungeons changed three times during the beta. On September 14 Blizzard cut the XP from dungeon mobs. On October 1 it halved the extra XP on dungeon quests:
The result: one run with every quest is worth one to two levels at low level, while a second run without quests is worth very little. A full Shadowfang Keep clear at level 24 gives about 1,800 XP from kills, roughly one quest in the open world.
Two smaller rules matter. Mobs below your level give less than in Classic: at level 16 a level 13 mob gives 73 XP against 83 in Classic Era and 125 for a mob of your level. And casting low ranks of spells is penalized: ranks far below your level get less spell power.
Where players disagree
Blizzard's data says leveling takes as long as in Classic. Many beta players say it feels 5 to 30% faster because of crafted food, camp bonuses, more quests and faster respawns.
How long it takes to reach 60
Most players should plan for about 150 hours of play. Where you land depends on your pace:
| Your pace | Hours to 60 | What it looks like |
|---|---|---|
| World-first racer | About 50 | Speedrunners in groups, almost no breaks |
| Fast | 100-125 | Route addon, experienced player, few detours |
| Typical: most players | About 150 | Quests, the must-run dungeons, one gathering profession |
| Relaxed | 200-250 | First character, exploring, side activities |
For scale: Blizzard's data puts the average time to level 20 at about 20 hours, and level 20 is just over 10% of the XP to 60. A route simulation for one character lands at 103 to 124 hours, and public estimates for a normal pace at about 150.
What 150 hours means in weeks:
| You play per week | Weeks to 60 |
|---|---|
| 10 hours | About 15 |
| 20 hours | About 7-8 |
| 40 hours | About 4 |
Pro tip
Write down your played time at every 10 levels. If 20-30 takes much longer than 10-20, you are doing too many low-value quests or waiting too long for dungeon groups.
WoW Forever leveling zones by level
The zones that work best at each level for each faction. Levels 1-30 come from routes tested in the beta; 30-60 is the plan until launch week.
| Levels | Alliance | Horde |
|---|---|---|
| 1-12 | Elwynn Forest, Dun Morogh, Teldrassil, Zephras Isle | Durotar, Mulgore, Tirisfal Glades, Zephras Isle |
| 10-15 | Westfall, Loch Modan, Darkshore | The Barrens, Silverpine Forest |
| 13-20 | Hall of Thanes, Redridge Mountains, Deadmines at 18+ | Ragefire Chasm, Ruins of Lordaeron, The Barrens |
| 17-23 | Redridge, Deadmines | The Barrens with Wailing Caverns |
| 20-25 | Wetlands | Stonetalon Mountains |
| 24-28 | Duskwood, Stockade, Excavation Site | Ashenvale (Splintertree Post) |
| 25-30 | Wetlands, Hillsbrad Foothills, Ashenvale | Thousand Needles, Hillsbrad Foothills |
| 30-40 | Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh, Riverglades from 36 | Same zones: Arathi, Stranglethorn, Desolace, Dustwallow, Riverglades |
| 40-50 | Riverglades, Badlands, Tanaris, Feralas, The Hinterlands, Shen'Dralas | Same zones |
| 50-60 | Un'Goro Crater, Felwood, Burning Steppes, Western and Eastern Plaguelands, Winterspring, Mount Hyjal | Same zones |
From 30 both factions share most zones and quest from their own camps inside them. On the PvP ruleset these shared zones are where most world PvP happens, so expect slower progress there in the first weeks.
Fastest route for Alliance, 1-30
This route was tested in the beta. Finish your starting area, then funnel into Westfall and Redridge.
- Human: Northshire, then Goldshire and all of Elwynn Forest. Leave at 13-14 for Westfall (Sentinel Hill) for 10-15, then Redridge (Lakeshire) for 15-20.
- Dwarf and Gnome: Coldridge Valley, Kharanos, Ironforge, then Loch Modan at about 12 (Thelsamar). Run Hall of Thanes from 13, then go to Redridge.
- Night Elf: Shadowglen, Dolanaar, Auberdine. Either stay in Darkshore for 10-18 or take the new ship from Darkshore to Stormwind and level in Westfall; testers found Westfall faster.
- Skyborne: finish Zephras Isle fully, leave at about 14, take the ship to Dalaran and the portal to Stormwind, then Westfall for 13-15.
From 18 everyone joins one path: Redridge and Deadmines at 18-22, Wetlands at 22-25 (staying until 27-28 is fine; Excavation Site opens from 24), Duskwood from 24-25 if you want more quests, the Stockade, then Excavation Site at 26-28 and on to 30. Hillsbrad and Ashenvale also work for 25-30.
New ships save a lot of running: Stormwind Harbor to Darkshore and Westfall, Menethil Harbor to Southshore and Auberdine.
Fastest route for Horde, 1-30
- Orc and Troll: Valley of Trials, Sen'jin Village, Razor Hill. In Orgrimmar take
Hidden Enemies from Thrall; it unlocks the Ragefire Chasm quests. Head to the Crossroads at 12-14. - Tauren: Camp Narache, Bloodhoof Village, then the Barrens at 12-13.
- Undead: Deathknell, Brill, then Silverpine Forest (The Sepulcher). Pick up the Ruins of Lordaeron quests in the hubs around Undercity and run the dungeon at 15-19; Ragefire Chasm is optional for you.
- Skyborne: finish Zephras Isle fully, leave at 14-15, arrive in Mulgore near Thunder Bluff and go to the Barrens.
From 13 everyone shares one path: Ragefire Chasm and Ruins of Lordaeron at 13-17, the Barrens at 17-23 with Wailing Caverns (do not skip it), Stonetalon Mountains (Sun Rock Retreat), Ashenvale at 26-28 from Splintertree Post, with the Blackfathom Deeps quests at Zoram'gar, then Thousand Needles to 30. Hillsbrad also works for 25-30.
Pro tip
In the Barrens, skip the quest for 15 Centaur Bracers. With this many quests you lose nothing, and it is one of the slowest quests on the route.
Levels 30-60: the route before launch
The beta ended at level 30, so this part is a forecast built from zone levels and Classic routes. Treat it as a plan to adjust, not a tested route.
| Levels | Zones |
|---|---|
| 30-40 | Arathi Highlands, Stranglethorn Vale, Desolace, Dustwallow Marsh; Riverglades from 36 |
| 40-50 | Riverglades to 44 with Krol'dok Stronghold, Badlands, Tanaris, Feralas, The Hinterlands; Shen'Dralas from 40 |
| 50-60 | Un'Goro Crater, Felwood, Burning Steppes, Western and Eastern Plaguelands, Winterspring; Mount Hyjal at the very end |
Riverglades is the new 35-45 zone and the biggest change in the middle levels, where Classic always felt thin. A new ship runs between Steamwheedle Port in Tanaris and Powderfuse Port in Riverglades. Shen'Dralas sits between Mulgore and Desolace, and its quests lead into Razorfen Downs and Maraudon.
Dual specialization and the first riding skill come at level 40. Blizzard has not published the price of the first mount yet.
Launch week: leveling when every zone is full
On November 4 everyone starts at level 1 at the same time, so the first days are about crowds, not routes.
- Pick a quieter start. In the beta the busiest starting zones were Elwynn Forest and the Valley of Trials; Mulgore was the quietest. The Skyborne start on Zephras Isle needs a pack, so it is smaller too.
- Do not fight for named mobs. If a quest mob is camped, try one to three times and leave after 10 minutes. There are enough other quests to come back later.
- Group up for kill quests. In a group every member gets credit for the kill, so five players clear a camped spot five times faster.
- Pick up quests before you join a group. An invite can move you to another layer of the zone, away from the quest giver you were standing next to.
- Leave the starting zone on time. Once the next zone opens, staying for the last slow quests costs more than it gives.
Respawns in the starting zones, Westfall and Silverpine were sped up during the beta, and later in Hillsbrad, Ashenvale, Wetlands, Duskwood and Thousand Needles, which helps exactly in launch week.
Dungeons: run each once with all its quests
Run every low-level dungeon on your route once, with every quest for it in your log. Repeating it without quests is not worth the time.

| Dungeon | New in Forever | Level range | Best entry level | Quests | Run it? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Ragefire Chasm | No | 13-18 | 14 | 5 | Horde: yes |
| Hall of Thanes | Yes | 13-18 | 14 | 5 | Alliance: yes, except night elves |
| Ruins of Lordaeron | Yes | 16-22 | 19 | 6-10 | Horde: yes |
| Wailing Caverns | No | 15-24 | 19 | 7 | Horde: yes |
| The Deadmines | No | 17-26 | 19 | 7-9 | Alliance: yes |
| Shadowfang Keep | No | 20-30 | 23 | 5 | Optional |
| Blackfathom Deeps | No | 24-32 | 25 | 6 Horde, 7 Alliance | Only with all quests |
| The Stockade | No | 24-32 | 26 | 6 | Alliance: yes |
| Excavation Site: Wetlands | Yes | 26-32 | 29 | 11 | Alliance: yes |
| City of Dalaran | Yes | 28-34 | 31 | 4 per faction | Optional, at 30+ |
| Gnomeregan | No | 29-38 | 33 | not counted | Optional, at 30+ |
| Razorfen Kraul | No | 29-38 | 31 | not counted | Optional |
Level ranges differ by 2 to 6 levels between sources; the table uses the most common range and the entry level Wowhead recommends for Forever.
What makes each run worth it:
- Ruins of Lordaeron: the
Crest of Lordaeron shield inside gives 10,000 XP for picking it up and turning it in. One run took a beta tester from 16 to almost 19 after the October changes. - Hall of Thanes: two quests in Old Ironforge, Old Ironforge Incursion at Gol'Golar Quarry in Dun Morogh, two inside. Close to two levels per run.
- The Deadmines: three quests in Stormwind, Sentinel Hill after the Defias Brotherhood chain, the new
Testing the Wells andDestruction in Deadmines chain (bring 10 Rough Dynamite), and the drop from VanCleef that leads to the Stockade. One and a half to two levels. - Wailing Caverns: Thunder Bluff, two in Ratchet, two at the cave entrance, a drop from the last boss and Leaders of the Fang after the Forgotten Pools chain.
Deviate Hides did not finish in one run for any of three test characters, so pick it up but do not wait for it. - Excavation Site: 11 quests, including the Green Warden and Young Crocolisk Skins chains in Wetlands, Songblade Search in Redridge and Seeking Caitlin in Ashenvale. A level to a level and a half.
Group rules changed too. There is a group finder tool but no teleport, meeting stones do not summon (only a warlock can), and dungeon quests cannot be shared, so every member must pick them up in the world. Dungeon quest rewards were lowered to green quality on October 8, but blue weapons from bosses are still the biggest power jump while leveling.
Pro tip
Take every dungeon quest first, then invite people to the group. An invite can move you to another layer, and some quest givers are easier to reach before you join.
Where players disagree
Some routes run only the must-do dungeons and quest everything else. Others plan zones around dungeons: the RestedXP route takes about 40% of its XP from dungeons.
If a group takes more than 20 minutes to form, go back to questing and try again later. A new wanted poster in Ratchet sends you after a shark worth about 4,000 XP; it needs a group too, so pair it with Wailing Caverns.
Camping, food and small XP bonuses
Camp bonuses and crafted food are small one by one, but they stack and run all the time.

| Quest at about level 5-6; teaches Cooking and the campfire | |
| Campfire | Sit about 1 minute: every camp object's bonus lasts 1 hour |
| Camp Tent (Leatherworking) | Rested XP worth 5% of a level once per hour, if you have less |
| Fish Bowl (Fishing) | +8% to all stats |
| Camp Chair (Skinning) | +2% critical strike |
| Crafted food | +5% XP from kills for 15 minutes, stacks with camp and bag |
| Cozy Sleeping Bag | Chain from level 14: +3% XP for 2 hours, plus a 12-slot bag |
Camp object bonuses do not stack with class buffs such as Mark of the Wild or Arcane Intellect. Not every food gives the XP bonus: Roasted Boar Meat does, Boiled Clams do not. Kills make up about 60% of your XP while questing, so +5% kill XP is closer to +3% overall. That still adds up to hours over a full 1-60.
Pro tip
Agree with your group to meet at a camp once an hour. One minute by the fire refreshes everyone's bonuses, and it is a natural break.
Leveling with a friend
A duo moves faster than one player in Forever. Quests are dense, so two players finish kill and collect objectives in half the time, and the usual duo problem, falling behind on XP from kills, is smaller with this many quests to fill the gap.
Three things to know:
- Dungeon quests cannot be shared. Each player picks them up in the world.
- Pair a tank or healer with damage. A warrior and a priest, or a paladin and a mage, kill elites and groups of mobs neither could pull alone.
- Use one route. Factoruide can compute one route for a duo or a group, with each class's own quests in it.
Professions while leveling
Gathering is now learned in the starting zones: a starting-zone quest gives you the pick or the knife, and gatherer bags with 4 slots sell for a few copper. Copper in the starting zones was dense enough in the early beta to train Mining to 40-50 before you leave, though Blizzard reduced the number of Poor Copper Veins there on October 1.
First Aid now makes healing potions, which saves gold and downtime. Crafting professions also feed the Legacy system at skill 150, 225 and 300 (gathering does not count). Picking the pair is covered in Choosing a Profession in
Legacy points that speed up leveling
Legacy points come from account-wide challenges: a point for each class you take to 25, 45 and 60, and for each crafting profession at 150, 225 and 300. At launch you can earn up to 65 points and spend 16 on each character.
Four perks speed up leveling directly:
- Well Rested: raises the cap on rested XP.
- Talented: gives the first talent points earlier than level 10.
- Thrill of Adventure: restores health and mana when you finish off an enemy, so less eating and drinking.
- Frequent Flier: flight paths cost half.
Launch checklist: what to do and what to skip
Everything that saves time on the way to 60, in one place. Print it or keep it on a second screen.
Do
- Do the 6-slot bag quest in your starting zone.
- Add the Battle.net Authenticator and phone notifications: your backpack grows from 16 to 20 slots.
- Sit by a campfire every hour: camp bonuses last 60 minutes.
- Eat crafted food for +5% XP from kills.
- Run each low-level dungeon once, with every quest for it.
- Pick up dungeon quests before you join the group.
- Take city delivery quests: a potion delivery in Undercity gives about 1,200 XP.
- Grab the new hidden quests in Duskwood: about three quarters of a level.
- Casters: buy
Lesser Magic Wand at 5 andGreater Magic Wand at 13. - Buy the highest rank of food and water you can use.
- Bind Interact with Target to a key to loot chests and quest items through walls.
- Level with a friend if you can.
- Hunters: tame a fast pet, like the lion cubs near the Crossroads (1.4 second attacks).
- Below level 10, use a death as a free trip to the spirit healer: there is no resurrection sickness yet.
Skip
- Repeating a dungeon after its quests are done: about 8,000 XP an hour.
- Waiting more than 20 minutes for a dungeon group.
- Fighting over a camped quest mob for more than 10 minutes.
- Slow quests like 15 Centaur Bracers: there are more quests than you need.
- Dropping green quests by habit: they still give 85-90% of the XP.
- Killing mobs far below your level: they give less XP than in Classic.
- Casting old ranks of spells: low ranks get much less spell power.
- Following a Classic route above level 30: it misses Riverglades and the new quests.
- Trusting numbers from September videos: dungeon quest XP was cut on October 1.
- Starting in the busiest zones on launch day: Elwynn Forest and the Valley of Trials were the most crowded in the beta.
Picking the class is half the speed: see Choosing a Class in
Grinding: when it beats questing
Pure grinding is slower than a good quest route, but it fills gaps when you run out of quests or wait for a group. Beta tests below level 30 measured:
| Activity | XP per hour |
|---|---|
| Dungeon without quests | About 8,000 |
| Kobolds in Stonetalon, level 22-23 | About 28,000 |
| Quillboars with buffs, warrior 18 | About 36,000 |
| Fast respawn cave in a group | 60,000 or more |
| Hillsbrad mine, protection paladin 26 | About 72,000 |
Good spots with neutral mobs: crabs on the west coast of Westfall from 13 into the 20s, Shimmering Flats in the late 20s, Charred Vale at 26-32, centaurs in Desolace at 32-38, turtles in Dustwallow at 37-42, Tanaris at 41-43, the east coast of the Hinterlands at 47-52. Spots above 30 are from Classic and were not tested in Forever.
Route tools and addons
A route addon removes most of the thinking from leveling. Four approaches, from paid and hand-written to free and computed:

| Tool | What it does | Price | Forever status |
|---|---|---|---|
| RestedXP | Step-by-step route in game, written by speedrunners | Addon free, route 1-22 free; full guide $30 per faction or $45 for both | Speedrun route ready, dungeon route in progress, Forever routes for 35-60 after launch (Classic routes until then) |
| Zygor | Step-by-step guide in game | Elite subscription | Forever guide promised through the Zygor Client for launch |
| Factoruide | Computes the fastest route for your exact character: race, class, professions, zones, dungeons, pace, duo or group; addon follows it step by step (`/fg`) | Free, open source | Forever, Classic Era and TBC; 10 languages; the author calls it experimental |
| Questie | Shows quest givers and objectives on the map | Free | Works on Forever |
| Quest Master – Forever | Quest navigation, tracker and route editor | Free | Made for Forever |
Useful next to a route:
- Dungeon Journal / DungeonMaster: every Forever dungeon with its quests, where to get them, chains and loot. Leveling creators put it in their top three.
- GearQuest Forever: the best item for each slot at your level and where it drops.
- Forever Journey Log: your level splits and timeline, `/fjl`.
- Leatrix Plus and Bagnon: quality of life and bags, both with Forever builds.
WeakAuras does not work on the Forever client, which runs on the modern API; a damage meter, swing timer and cooldown manager are built in instead. TomTom, HandyNotes and AtlasLoot did not name Forever in their descriptions as of October 30; check them in launch week.
Pro tip
Try the free 1-22 part of RestedXP and a computed Factoruide route on your first character. Most players know within the first hour which style they like.

Frequently asked questions
How long does it take to level to 60 in WoW Forever ?
About 150 hours of play for most players. With a route addon and some experience, 100 to 125 hours; at a relaxed pace, 200 to 250. Speedrunners aim for around 50 hours.
Is leveling faster in WoW Forever than in Classic?
The XP curve is the same. Blizzard's data shows the same pace to level 20, but crafted food, camp bonuses, more quests and faster respawns let a well-prepared player go a little faster.
Should I level in dungeons in WoW Forever ?
Run each dungeon on your route once with all of its quests. Most of the XP is in the quests, so repeating a dungeon without them is much slower than questing.
Which dungeons are worth it for Horde and Alliance?
Horde: Ragefire Chasm, Ruins of Lordaeron and Wailing Caverns. Alliance: Hall of Thanes, the Deadmines, the Stockade and Excavation Site. Others are optional.
What is the best leveling addon for WoW Forever ?
RestedXP for a paid hand-written route (1-22 free), Factoruide for a free route computed for your character, Questie or Quest Master for free quest maps.
What are the best leveling zones in WoW Forever ?
Alliance: Westfall, Redridge, Wetlands and Duskwood to 30. Horde: the Barrens, Stonetalon, Ashenvale and Thousand Needles to 30. From 30 both factions share zones such as Stranglethorn, Desolace, the new Riverglades, Tanaris and Un'Goro Crater.
Which class levels fastest in WoW Forever ?
Classes that kill without much downtime, such as hunter, warlock and mage, are usually fastest solo. Our class guide rates leveling speed for all nine classes.
Do I need a guide for levels 30-60?
The beta ended at 30, so no route above 30 is tested yet. Use zone levels and a route addon, and expect updates in launch week.
Does the camping buff give XP?
The campfire itself keeps camp object bonuses active for an hour. The Leatherworking tent gives rested XP, crafted food gives +5% XP from kills and the Cozy Sleeping Bag gives +3% XP for two hours.
