Each grade is the consensus of beta testing up to level 30, more than 20 community tier lists, the beta duel tournament, a damage simulation at level 60 and Blizzard's class notes. Leveling and PvP grades rest on what players saw in the beta; PvE grades are a forecast until raids open on December 9. Checked on November 4, 2026, after Blizzard's launch class tuning; we update this page in the first week after launch.
Short answer
For leveling, Beast Mastery Hunter is the fastest, with Frost Mage, Enhancement Shaman and Feral Druid close behind: speed of travel counts as much as damage. All warrior specs are the slowest start. For PvE damage, Survival Hunter, Retribution Paladin and Enhancement Shaman lead after the launch class tuning. Priests, Restoration Shamans and Restoration Druids are all top healers, and Protection Warrior, Bear Druid and Protection Paladin all tank well. In PvP, warlocks won the beta duel tournament, with paladins, priests and hunters close behind.

Best spec by what you want
| If you want | Pick | Why |
|---|---|---|
| The easiest first character | The pet tanks, almost no downtime | |
| Fast leveling with control | Slows everything, conjures food and water | |
| A fast melee leveler | Ghost Wolf for travel, heals and big Windfury hits | |
| Leveling without stopping | DoTs, drains and | |
| Top damage in raids | The top three in the level 60 simulation after the launch tuning | |
| A melee that scales with gear | Slow to level, strongest growth with weapons at 60 | |
| To tank everything | Best cooldowns, the main raid tank | |
| To heal raids | ||
| To win duels | The highest win rates in the beta tournament |
Leveling tier list (solo 1-60)
| Spec | Tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | The pet tanks while you shoot, and | |
| A | Slows keep mobs off you; Blink, city teleports and your own food and water, but heavy mana use | |
| A | Ghost Wolf at 20 for travel; Stormstrike and Maelstrom Weapon got much stronger in the launch tuning | |
| A | Cat Form damage, Bear Form for safety, Travel Form at 30 | |
| A | Pet plus melee and ranged damage, | |
| A | Fast kills with | |
| A | Almost no downtime, but no way to move faster; since launch, demons get far less health from your Stamina, so the Voidwalker tanks less than in the beta | |
| A | Heavy armor, self heals and Seal damage, but no speed boost while leveling | |
| B | A strong demon, but demons now get far less health from your Stamina; no travel speed | |
| B | Burst and Ghost Wolf; | |
| B | Slow casts and high mana cost, but Travel Form and forms make travel easy | |
| B | Shields, | |
| B | Safe and steady with shields and DoTs, speeds up with Shadowform at 40 | |
| B | High damage, but runs out of mana often | |
| B | Steady damage and Sprint; Shank from level 24 gives Energy back, after Restless Blades was removed | |
| C | Burst without the sustain of the other two warlock specs, and no travel speed | |
| C | Built for raids, not for solo leveling; Beast Mastery is far easier | |
| C | Depends on weapons, slow before poisons at 20 | |
| C | Built for control, not speed | |
| C | Safe but slow; Discipline does the same job faster | |
| C | Very safe, very slow kills | |
| D | No self heal and slow rage: the hardest solo start; better with gear | |
| D | Shines at 60, painful before it | |
| D | Built for tanking dungeons, not for killing alone | |
| D | Hard to kill, kills very slowly | |
| D | Barely any damage solo; level as Enhancement | |
| D | Level as Feral and switch with dual spec at 40 |
Why travel speed matters
Solo, up to half of your leveling time is spent moving between quests. A class that runs faster gains hours over 60 levels, even with lower damage. That is why warlocks, priests, paladins and warriors sit lower than their damage alone would suggest.
| Class | Travel help while leveling |
|---|---|
| Ghost Wolf from level 20 | |
| Travel Form from 30, forms to escape and move | |
| Blink and teleports to capitals from 20 | |
| Sprint on a cooldown | |
| Nothing until the mount at 40 |

Pro tip
Your leveling spec and your level 60 spec do not have to be the same. Dual spec unlocks at 40: level as Beast Mastery, Frost, Feral or Enhancement and keep the second spec for dungeons and raids.
PvE DPS tier list (forecast until December 9)
We start from the MythicSim level 60 simulation (single target, two minutes, re-simulated on November 4, 2026 with Blizzard's launch class tuning and the new rogue, Warrior and Enhancement talent trees) and add 10% to every spec with real area damage, because raid trash and many fights have several targets. Specs with strong AoE: all mages, all warlocks, Fury and Arms Warrior, Elemental and Enhancement Shaman, Balance Druid and Retribution Paladin. Tiers follow MythicSim's bands: S is 15% or more above the median, A above it, B within 15% below, C further down. These are still simulations, not raid logs, so grades will move once raids open.
| Spec | Tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | First in the simulation, helped by the hunter buffs at launch; the lead depends on weaving into melee between Auto Shots, which is not proven in raids yet | |
| S | Second: | |
| S | The biggest winner of the launch tuning: Stormstrike hits for 150% weapon damage every 6 sec and Maelstrom Weapon procs twice as often; | |
| A | The best caster in the simulation, plus | |
| A | ||
| A | The best melee cleave; the new Fury tree adds about 5% in the simulation | |
| A | ||
| A | Shadow and Flame doubled to 20%; the | |
| A | ||
| A | Now simulated with Wrack, which got much stronger at launch; DoTs can crit and it is strong on packs | |
| B | Shred, Claw and | |
| B | Two-Handed Weapon Specialization doubled; Sweeping Strikes for packs | |
| B | The pet scales with your gear and gained from the hunter buffs, but single target only | |
| B | ||
| B | ||
| B | The best rogue after the talent rework: | |
| B | Gained about 30% from the rework, Shank and poisons; Death Mark is its new finisher | |
| B | Shank and poisons lift it too, but it trails Assassination on one target | |
| C | The lowest caster on one target; Blizzard and | |
| C | Unchanged by the launch tuning while most specs gained, so it fell behind; Vampiric Embrace still helps the group |
Pro tip
In Forever,
Hybrid builds worth knowing
Forever's talent trees make cross-tree hybrids real options, and some of them rival pure specs. They are not graded above, because the simulation marks them experimental, but they are worth trying in your second spec:
| Hybrid | Class | Idea | Simulated DPS vs the pure spec |
|---|---|---|---|
| Frostfire | 848, above pure Frost (741) | ||
| Shockadin | Holy and Retribution talents, | 1,028, close to Retribution (1,098) | |
| Elehance | Elemental talents with Stormstrike, needs a melee group | 940, well above Elemental (823) | |
| Smite | Discipline and Holy talents, Smite, | 673 | |
| Destruction ( | Fire build: about 6% behind on one target, 18-43% ahead on three to five | 870 |
Figures are from the MythicSim level 60 simulation, November 4, 2026. Tank hybrids (Holy-prot, Ret-prot and Fury-prot) are covered in the tank section of each class guide.
Tank tier list (forecast until December 9)
| Spec | Tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| A | The best cooldowns, the main raid tank; Defensive Stance now adds 80% threat instead of 30% | |
| A | The most threat in the simulation; | |
| A | A real taunt through | |
| C | Can tank small groups, but has no taunt or cooldowns |
In the simulation, Bear Druid has the most threat, then Protection Warrior, then Protection Paladin, but survival is not simulated. Paladins also got a large talent update in the October 30 hotfix, so tank grades may move in the first week after launch.
Healer tier list (forecast until December 9)
| Spec | Tier | Why |
|---|---|---|
| S | ||
| S | ||
| S | ||
| S | ||
| A | Reworked on October 30; the new version is not tested yet, so we hold it at A |
Healer grades are the most uncertain in this list: Holy Paladin and Restoration Druid both changed in the October 30 hotfix, and no simulation ranks healers yet.
PvP tier list (duels, world PvP and battlegrounds)

Win rates by class in 4,623 duels of the beta tournament at level 30:
| Class | Win rate | Tier |

| 53.2% | A | |
| 48.5% | B | |
| 47.1% | A for Beast Mastery and Marksmanship in world PvP and battlegrounds | |
| 46.7% | B | |
| 45.7% | C in duels, but 63% in the final | |
| 44.7% | C | |
| 38.5% | C |
In the tournament final, with the top four players of each class, warlocks won 79% of their duels and took first and second place.

What changed in Forever, class by class
| Class | Biggest changes |
|---|---|
| Rage from damage taken ignores armor; crits give 100% more rage since October 1; | |
| A real taunt through | |
| Blizzard's goal is the best single-target melee damage; the launch tuning rebuilt the talent trees, added Shank at 24 and doubled poison scaling | |
| Drop four totems with one cast; Windfury is a group buff; | |
| Banes replace Curse of Agony and Doom; pets scale with you, but demons get less health from your Stamina since launch; | |
| Use items and open doors in forms; |
Roles and dual spec
Three classes tank properly in Forever: Warrior, Paladin and Druid. The paladin got a taunt, which Classic never had. Shamans can tank small groups but have no taunt. Dual spec unlocks at level 40, so you can level as one spec and heal or tank dungeons with the other.
Where players disagree
Hunters are the biggest question at 60. Survival leads the simulation, but only by weaving into melee between Auto Shots, which nobody has proven in a raid yet. The October 28 cut to
Where players disagree
Warriors split players more than any class. They are the slowest start and lost most duels in the beta, but Blizzard gave them the best sustained damage on several targets, and their key talents come after level 30. Many expect Fury to climb to S with raid gear; the launch tuning rebuilt the Fury tree, and the new tree already adds about 5% in the simulation.
What we will update
- In the first week after November 4: leveling grades at 60, the first real data on the new warrior, rogue and Enhancement trees, the dual spec cost and class popularity at launch.
- After December 9: raid logs from Barrow Deeps, Hyjal Summit and Onyxia; all PvE grades get rewritten from real data.
Do
- Pick for leveling and for level 60 separately: dual spec at 40 lets you have both.
- Level as Beast Mastery, Frost, Enhancement or Feral if speed matters most: travel speed saves hours.
- Check if your spec brings a raid buff before worrying about its damage grade.
- Treat PvE grades as a forecast until raid logs come in.
Skip
- Leveling a warrior as your first character if you want a fast start.
- Leveling as a healer spec: switch to it with dual spec at 40.
- Choosing a class from a Classic tier list.
