WoW Forever Warlock Leveling Guide 1-60: Best Spec, Talents, Demons, Rotation and Races

The warlock is one of the calmest classes to level in WoW Forever: your demon takes the hits, your damage over time spells do the work, and a wand finishes the job. Forever added new tools, from Bane spells that stack with curses to Demonic Brand and Wrack, and your damage over time spells can now crit.

Blizzard's launch notes changed one thing that matters a lot while leveling: demons now get much less health from your Stamina. This guide is built on what four warlock experts found in the beta, updated for that change. Checked on November 4, 2026, against Blizzard's launch notes of November 3. The beta went to level 30, so everything above 30 is a forecast; we update the guide after launch.

Best spec: Affliction or Demonology

Jazggz, who played the beta to 20 and the duel tournament at 30, calls Affliction leveling "really easy. Dot wand and run". The key is Improved Corruption: an instant Corruption plus a wand is, in his words, "life-changing". Kalamazi plans to level mostly as Demonology with some Affliction, and says that at 20 "whatever you want to play is fine".

Kargoz's Mobalytics guide argues that Demonology "might actually be the most efficient overall Warlock leveling specialization": your demon deals about a third of your damage, so it plays like a Beast Mastery hunter. He calls this a hypothesis from the beta, not a tested speedrun.

Destruction is for dungeons and raids, not for solo leveling.

What changed for demons at launch

Blizzard's launch notes: "Pets now gain 2 Health per point of Master's Stamina (was 7.5 Health per point of Master's Stamina)." Your demon's base health stays, but the part that comes from your Stamina is cut by almost three quarters.

The Voidwalker still holds mobs well with Torment, Suffering and Demonic Brand, but it dies faster, especially at higher levels. Soul Link, which sends 30% of your damage taken to your demon, now hurts it more. What helps:

• Consume Shadows between fights, Demonic Energies and Health Funnel.
• Summon a fresh demon instead of nursing a hurt one (Kargoz); Master Summoner and Fel Domination make it quick.
• Do not count on an "AFK" Voidwalker build: Jazggz tested it in the beta, before the change.

Talent build by level

Affliction (Jazggz)

Jazggz gives an order rather than levels:

1. Improved Corruption to 5/5 for an instant Corruption.
2. Grim Reach for 20% more range.
3. Soul Harvest, "insane for leveling" for mana regeneration while you cast, and a few points in Suppression.
4. Pandemic for crit damage on your damage over time spells, then Soul Siphon and Shadow Mastery. He skips Nightfall.
5. Then Demonology: Unholy Power, Improved Voidwalker, Demonic Energies, Demonic Sacrifice, Master Summoner, Fel Domination, Demonic Aegis, Demonic Brand and Soul Link.

Kargoz takes Improved Sayaad for a longer Seduction, not for damage. Amplify Curse finally works since the launch notes: it adds 50% to your next Bane of Agony or 20% to Curse of Exhaustion. Try the build in the Wowhead talent calculator for Forever.

In Forever, a Bane and a Curse can sit on the same target: Bane of Agony plus Curse of Recklessness or Weakness. Blizzard puts the full cost of training from 1 to 60 at about 206 gold, a little less for warlocks without the demon grimoires. New spells do not go on your action bars by themselves.

Rotation

Affliction, one mob

Kalamazi's summary: "Put up dots, wand things, drain life, run around with your pet out." Life Tap between fights, not during them: in Forever "mana matters".

Demonology, one mob (Kargoz)

Bane of Agony and Corruption, Immolate if the mob will live long enough, Searing Pain for Demonic Brand, then send the demon in and wand or Drain Life; refresh Brand when it drops. His warning: "Don't blindly cast every spell on every enemy."

Two or more mobs

Two mobs: put all your damage over time and Brand on the first, which your demon tanks; take the second yourself with damage over time, wand and Drain Life (Kargoz). Three or more: Fear the extras, or spread damage over time as Affliction.

Soul Shards

Since the launch notes, Drain Soul rarely gives a Soul Shard from damage alone. Finishing a mob with Drain Soul still always gives one, so finish with it when you need shards.

Wands and gear

Jazggz: "make sure you guys get a wand. Make sure to get enchanting." Wands do the steady damage while your demon tanks.

• Lesser and Greater Magic Wand from Enchanting.
• Gravestone Scepter (29 damage per second) from the Blackfathom Villainy quest in Blackfathom Deeps, a level 27 quest.
• Stats: spell power, but not at the cost of Stamina and Intellect (Kargoz).

Leveling in a group

The warlock is half of the top duo in both public duo tier lists: Warlock and Priest. Life Tap trades your health for mana, and a healer gives it back, so you almost never stop to drink. Best races

Racials were reworked on October 26-27 and repeated in the launch notes. Jazggz's advice: "you should really, really play the class and the race you enjoy."

Professions

Enchanting from the start for your wand (Jazggz), with Tailoring for cloth gear and materials. Kargoz also gathers until about 35 for gold.

In dungeons

Kargoz uses a Demonology and Destruction mix for dungeons, with Hellfire and Pyroclasm, which can stun the whole pack. Put Seduction on a focus target, and use Bane of Havoc and Rain of Fire on packs (Kalamazi). A Voidwalker can help, but with its new health it will not replace a real tank. In dungeons and on the move, Shadow Bolt is your filler rather than Wrack, which you have to channel (Zephan).

PvP in short

Warlocks won the final of the beta duel tournament, and our tier list rates Affliction and Demonology S in PvP. Jazggz finished third among warlocks in that tournament.

• Races: Orc is "really insane for short duels", Undead for long fights (Jazggz).
• Zephan's builds for level 60: Soul Link with Shadow Mastery for solo battlegrounds, a Shadow Mastery and Ruin build for group burst; he calls the Wrack drain build the weakest of the three in PvP.
• Soul Link now hurts your demon more, because it has less health.

At 60: Demonology, Affliction and Destruction

In the MythicSim level 60 simulation (November 4, 2026), Demonology deals 985 DPS, Affliction 936 with Wrack, Destruction 929 and the Incinerate build 870; all three are A tier in our WoW Forever tier list. Two launch changes pushed the specs closer: Wrack's damage doubled, and Shadow and Flame now gives up to 20%. Zephan, writing after the launch notes, rates the Wrack build the strongest for raids. Kalamazi's warning still applies: "There's Sims, and there's actuality."

8 tips that save time

1. Take Improved Corruption first.
2. Learn Enchanting early and make a wand.
3. Bane and Curse on the same target.
4. Life Tap between fights, not during them.
5. Heal your demon between fights, or summon a new one.
6. Finish with Drain Soul when you need shards.
7. Succubus for single mobs, Voidwalker for two.
8. Level with a priest if you can.
